Today, we continue the topic of QR code payment and will focus on the convenience of this payment method for companies and clients. How can a business connect QR payments? What is acquiring for QR payment? Which companies find it most profitable to use pixel codes for transactions? Find answers to these and other questions in the article.

How does payment by QR code work

his method of contactless payment has become widespread since every smartphone has a QR scanner, and payments can be accepted without additional equipment. The first is convenient for the buyer, the second is for the seller. Add to this the speed, simplicity and security of transactions, which are the advantages for both parties to the transaction.

The key element of the payment is the QR code. In the previous article, we discussed how it is formed, what information it can contain, what it can be used for besides payment, and what types there are. Now, let's look at the process from the side of the business and the client.

QR payments for users

In addition to a smartphone, the buyer needs an Internet connection and an official bank application (guarantor of a secure transaction). How the payment itself is made:

• the user needs to open the app > find the code scanning function. Most often, the scanner is located in the key menu or the payments section;

• then the QR is scanned, which can be a printed image, a sticker, or a display on a screen;

• the necessary data for the transaction will appear in the app (they do not need to be entered manually). The buyer's task is to check them, in particular, the correct name of the product and its cost;

• if everything is correct, the transaction is confirmed > the funds are debited from the buyer's card and sent to the seller. Since the information is encrypted, the user's card data is not available to anyone;

• the transaction is confirmed by an electronic receipt, which is best kept for reporting and in case of possible questions.

In addition to the fact that the operation takes very little time, QR payments are often rewarded with a bonus, discount, or cashback, which popularizes the service among specific sellers and banks, and is beneficial to buyers.

QR code payment process and connection for businesses

The first step for companies is to connect QR payments. To do this, the business contacts the bank where it has an account and finds out whether it is possible to set up QR payments (or this can be done through a banking app). Not all banks in Kazakhstan have this service, but it is expected to become widespread in 2025. At the moment, it is supported by Kaspi Bank, Sberbank and Halyk Bank.

Using Halyk Bank as an example, we will tell you how easy it is to connect QR code payments for a business:

• the company opens an account with the bank (this can be done online);

• downloads and installs the banking app, logs in to it;

• in the "Halyk QR" option, it is necessary to enter business information, specify an account for crediting funds, and submit an application for connecting QR payments;

• once connected, QRs can be generated and payments can be accepted.

Companies most often use dynamic or static pixel codes in their work. Dynamic QR is suitable for a large organization, store, etc. with an online payment function. The code is generated each time for a new payment, encrypting the payment data, which are the cost of the product/service. The client does not need to enter additional information, it is enough to confirm the transaction. Payment by static QR code is more suitable for small businesses with a small audience. Such codes are generated once, contain unchangeable payment details, but the buyer needs to manually indicate the amount each time.

QR-payment commission

There is a bank commission for QR payments. The bank (other payment organization or system) charges it for providing the service, processing the transaction information and transmitting it. The commission is charged not only for QR code payments, but also for card payments, online payments and other non-cash transactions.

In Kazakhstan, tariffs for QR payments depend on the specific bank, the type of transaction (interbank or within one bank) and the client category (individual or legal entity). On average, commissions vary from 0% to 1.5% of the payment amount.

For individuals, many banks offer free transfers via QR code, especially if the payment is made within the same banking system. However, transfers to accounts of other banks may incur a comission, usually between 0.5% and 1%.

Legal entities accepting QR payments from clients face higher commissions. The average rate for acquiring via QR codes is from 0.5% to 1.5%, depending on the bank and business turnover.

The bank determines the commission amount independently and, when connecting QR payments in a particular organization, it is important to clarify its amount in advance.

Which companies are suitable for QR-payments

Payment by QR code is most convenient for:

1. Street trade with one seller and a small list of products. A separate QR is generated for each item, which contains the characteristics and cost.

2. Small businesses with one seller and a small selection of products. Codes are generated in a mobile app, encoding the purchase amount. Buyers scan QR codes from the seller's smartphone.

3. Medium-sized businesses with 1-2 or more sellers and an extensive list of products. A separate pixel code is generated for each client, which indicates the cash register. Payment happens as follows: the buyer scans the code > the seller sends him a receipt to his gadget from his place > the buyer confirms the purchase.

4. Supermarkets. The buyer shows a static unique QR to the cashier from his wallet on his smartphone > the cashier scans the QR with a physical scanner > the receipt goes to the buyer's smartphone, and he confirms the transaction.

5. Restaurants, cafes, bars. Each client's account has a QR code that is scanned for payment.

6. Gas stations. Each pump is assigned a QR code. The buyer fills up the car with the help of a gas station employee (specifying a specific fuel) > scans the code > indicates the amount of fuel/refueling amount on the screen, or selects “full tank” > confirms the transaction.

7. And other businesses..

Conslusion

Payment by QR code for business is a way to conduct transactions quickly, conveniently for customers, reliably, and safely, and it also ensures the transaction is carried out in any conditions. Companies do not need to invest in additional equipment and hire new employees. The level and speed of service grow automatically, so do sales volumes. The main thing is that access to all these advantages is simple, since connecting QR payments takes a minimum of time, subject to cooperation with a suitable bank or payment system.
